This family friendly event will be a practical archaeological experience for our younger visitors. They can explore our Victorian Coal mine excavations and help us interpret what we have found.  Children will have the opportunity to discover real treasure to take home!

Come and meet the wonderful Friends of the 1620s House and discover domestic needle and wool craft styles of the 17th Century.

Join John the Archer and his comrades as they practice Sunday Archery Law.  There will be archery, crossbow and handgun presentations, talks with visitors and craft demonstrations such as Fletching, sewing, leatherwork and pole lath.

The Iceni tribe made a pit stop at Bosworth on their way to Wattling St, the problem is, they’ve made a riotous mess around site! Can you help us find all their belongings before someone starts a rebellion (though we might be too late for that)? You will be rewarded for your efforts.

Roman Around
Saturday July 17th – Sunday 18th: 10am – 4pm

Join us in celebrating the Roman History of the Bosworth area.  Long before the Battle of Bosworth took place, the site housed an important Roman Temple.  The Batavi Re-enactment group will be camped on site and covering a whole manner of everyday roman life experiences from home and family life aspects such as cooking and pottery to exploring the life and attire of a Roman soldier. What’s more Boudicca, leader of the Iceni Tribe will be there to tell her story, she’s not a fan of the Romans though, so there maybe some trouble!

Children can learn the basics of archaeology and uncover hidden artefacts in our mini archaeology dig pits. The Festival of Archaeology events are included in admission to the Visitor Centre. Don’t forget, once purchased, your ticket is valid for 12 months!

Bring along any unusual finds that you have unearthed while gardening in Great Bowden and the team will attempt to identify them for you.  If we are not sure we will retain the finds and seek expert help.

Calling all budding archaeologists (or those that just love digging and making things)! Join us at The Guildhall for our Festival of Archaeology Family Fun Day. An archaeologist wouldn’t be able to do their job without the tools of their trade, so let us help you create your own dig brush and hard hat so that you can have a go at digging in our sand pits. You never know what treasures you may find! Create clay pots, just like the ones on display in the museum and have a go at our medieval games and puzzles. There will be an archaeological dig trail to follow too.
£3 drop in activity.

Don your armour, pull down your visor and come along to Knight School where young squires can learn to fight like a knight with Sir John of Bosworth. Join us for a great hands-on experience with have a go bill drill, sword fighting and an archery demonstration.

Travel back in time with the Friends of Jewry Wall Museum and enjoy a day of object display and craft activities. Meet and talk with Friends and members of the church.  Learn about the progress on our new museum.  Walk round this ancient church with a guide.  Take a free map for a self-guided tour and information on our Roman town. Refreshments will be on offer.
